Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is commonly viewed as one of the most complex but popular poker games. It is a game that, even more than regular Omaha poker, invites play from every level of players. This is the primary reason why a once obscure variation, has increased in acceptance so amazingly.
Omaha 8 or better begins exactly like a normal game of Omaha. Four cards are handed out to each player. A sequence of betting ensues where gamblers can wager, check, or drop out. 3 cards are handed out, this is referred to as the flop. One more round of wagering happens. After all the gamblers have in turn called or dropped out, an additional card is flipped on the turn. a further sequence of betting happens at which point the river card is flipped. The entrants must attempt to put together the best high and low 5 card hands using the board and hole cards.
This is the point where some entrants often get flustered. Unlike Texas Holdem, in which the board can make up every player’s hand, in Omaha hi lo the player must utilize exactly three cards from the board, and exactly 2 hole cards. No more, not a single card less. Contrary to regular Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot may be won: the "higher hand" or the "lower hand."
A high hand is just how it sounds. It is the best hand out of every player’s, regardless if it is a straight, flush, full house. It is the very same notion in nearly every poker game.
A low hand is more complicated, but certainly free’s up the action. When determining a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. A low hand is the worst hand that might be made, with the worst being A-2-3-4-5. Seeing as straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest possible hand. The lower hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an eight and below. The lower hand wins half of the pot, as just like the higher hand. When there is no lower hand presented, the higher hand wins the entire pot.
While it seems difficult at first, after a few rounds you will be able to get the base nuances of the game with ease. Seeing as you have people betting for the low and wagering for the high, and since such a large number of cards are being used at the same time, Omaha 8 or better offers an exciting array of wagering options and owing to the fact that you have several players battling for the high hand, as well as many battling for the low hand.
