Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is commonly viewed as one of the most complicated but popular poker games. It’s a variation that, even more than regular Omaha poker, invites action from all levels of players. This is the main reason why a once obscure variation, has grown in popularity so quickly.
Omaha hi lo begins just like a normal game of Omaha. Four cards are given out to each player. A sequence of wagering ensues in which gamblers can wager, check, or drop out. Three cards are given out, this is referred to as the flop. A further sequence of wagering ensues. Once all the gamblers have in turn called or dropped out, an additional card is revealed on the turn. a further sequence of wagering follows at which point the river card is flipped. The gamblers will need to make the strongest high and low five card hands using the board and hole cards.
This is the point where a number of entrants get confused. Contrasted to Texas Holdem, in which the board can make up every player’s hand, in Omaha hi/low the player must use precisely three cards from the board, and exactly two hole cards. Not a single card more, no less. Contrary to normal Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot may be won: the "higher hand" or the "lower hand."
A high hand is just how it sounds. It is the strongest possible hand out of everyone’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It is the very same approach in nearly all poker games.
The low hand is more complicated, but really free’s up the play. When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. A low hand is the weakest hand that might be put together, with the lowest being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Because straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the smallest value hand possible. The low hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and lower. The lower hand wins half of the pot, as just like the high hand. When there’s no lower hand presented, the high hand takes the complete pot.
